The Combustion Institute-Indian Section is a registered educational non-profit, international, scientific society whose purpose is to promote the research activities in combustion science. The Indian Section is one among the 29 Sections of the Combustion Institute spread world over. The objectives of the Combustion Institute-Indian Section(CIIS) are to promote interactions among researchers, academicians, scholars and scientists interested in Combustion Science and Technology through various technical meetings, workshops and a biennial national conferences and circulation of a quarterly News letter. The Combustion Institute -Indian Section(CIIS) activities commenced in 1974 through a National symposium in Combustion at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and since then the CIIS has been actively engaged in promoting activities related to combustion science and technology. National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal – venue of the conference - is one of the Institutes of National Importance in the country fully funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India. The institute has an impressive infrastructure with state of art facilities in all the departments for teaching, research and consultancy. The institute is located 22 km north of Mangalore city. The Department of Mechanical Engineering established in 1960, the oldest and largest department of NITK, has traversed the path of knowledge dissemination and generation as well as delivering over 4000 Mechanical Engineering graduates to the Nation. Over these 57 glorious years, it has carved a niche for itself in the key areas of teaching, research, consultancy, administration and community services. Academic Programmes leading to B. Tech. degree in Mechanical Engineering, M. Tech. degree in Manufacturing, Design and Precision, Mechatronics and Thermal Engineering and full time PhD degree are currently offered by the department.
